elsewhere editions membership

Elsewhere Editions is Archipelago’s international children’s imprint. We are devoted to translating imaginative works of children’s literature from all corners of the world. Our hope is that these titles will enrich children’s imaginations and cultivate curiosity about other cultures, as well as delight book lovers of all ages with their humor, art, and playful spirit. We hope to build a list of books that shows faith in children as enthusiastic, sensitive, and serious readers.

“Imaginative and wild and beautiful and tender — these books (from across the world!) comprise the most gently magnificent library I can imagine putting together for a child.”

– Rivka Galchen

“Few imprints cause my little heart to skip a beat quite like Elsewhere Editions. In a sea of bland offerings, Elsewhere consistently provides beautiful, surreal, magical books that are unlike anything else available. If any imprint is a link to the intangible, it’s this one.”

– Betsy Bird

Support our mission

Elsewhere Editions is an imprint of Archipelago Books, a non-profit devoted to publishing outstanding translations of classic and contemporary world literature.

We see Elsewhere as a natural and necessary extension of our mission. It is vital that other ways of seeing and being are open to young readers here. The windows these children’s titles provide onto other worlds fill a lamentable void in our bookshops, libraries, and on our children’s bookshelves. We are committed to furthering these ideals by publishing children’s books from around the world in beautiful, full-color editions and by bringing their authors to present their work at bookstores, libraries, schools, and cultural centers across the country.

Your involvement is absolutely crucial to this success of this project. It will allow our vision to become a reality, for these transformative works of children’s literature to reach English-language readers, both young and old.
