We’d love for you to join us this Saturday, November 13 at 1PM EST for a virtual conversation between Hanne Ørstavik and Lisa Gozashti, hosted by Brookline Booksmith. They’ll be discussing Ørstavik’s novel The Pastor, translated from the Norwegian by Martin Aitken. This event is part of Brookline Booksmith’s Transnational Literature Series and will stream live on Zoom.

You can find the link to register here.

With the publication of The Pastor, “Ørstavik distinguishes herself as a leading light in international literature,” Publishers Weekly wrote.

On translating Ørstavik’s novel Love, Martin Aitken wrote, “Hanne’s deceptively uncomplicated prose is an exacting task for any translator. Everything’s below the surface. There’s a lightness of touch to her sentences, and a movingly human insight that makes the writing as luminous as the snow of northern Norway where the book is set.”

Hanne Ørstavik, one of the most admired and prominent writers in contemporary Norwegian fiction, published her first novel Cut in 1994. Ørstavik has written a number of acclaimed novels that have been translated into more than 16 languages. She has been awarded a host of literary prizes, including the Dobloug Prize, presented annually for Swedish and Norwegian fiction by the Swedish Academy. Martin Aitken’s English translation of Love was a finalist for a National Book Award. Ørstavik’s novel Ti Amo is forthcoming with Archipelago Books.

Lisa Gozashti is co-owner and manager of Brookline Booksmith in Brookline, Massachusetts, one of New England’s premier independent bookstores since 1961.
