Please join us at Community Bookstore in Brooklyn at 7pm, for a conversation between celebrated Mexican poet Homero Aridjis and his daughter the novelist and translator Chloe Aridjis. Theyย will speak about THE CHILD POET, a dream memoir written by Homero Aridjis whichย animates long-forgotten memories of his childhood thatย imminent fatherhood helped to uncover.
Told in a series of interconnected vignettes, THE CHILD POETย provides a portrait of Aridjis in his pre-poet years, at a time when each day inย his native Contepec, Michoacรกnย formed part of a personal mythology. The work was of particular significance to translator Chloe Aridjis as it gave her insight into her fatherโs childhood and the beginning of his life as a poet, which would have otherwise been inaccessible.
Homero Aridjis has published over forty works of poetry and prose, includingย 1492: The Life and Times of Juan Cabezon of Castile.ย Twice elected president of International PEN, he is also considered one of Latin Americaโs leading environmentalists.
Chloe Aridjis has produced a collection of essays as well as two novels, includingย Book of Cloudsย inย 2009,ย which was published in eight countries and won the Prix du Premier Roman Etranger in France.
The Child Poetย is a heart-rending, singular meditation on where art comes from. This will certainly be a unique conversation, offeringย a great insight into the relationship between author and translator as well as father and daughter. We hope to see you there!
