Book Launch for Antonio Tabucchi’s Message from the Shadows at the Italian Cultural Institute

Join us at the Italian Cultural Institute for a celebration of Antonio Tabucchi’s Message from the Shadows. Writer Rivka Galchen will be joined by one of the volume’s translators, Elizabeth Harris.

A master of short stories, Antonio Tabucchi won the Prix Médicis Étranger for Indian Nocturne, the PEN Prize for Requiem, the Aristeion Prize for European Literature for Sostiene Pereira, and he was appointed Knight of the Arts and Letters by the French government. Tabucchi’s works include Time Ages in a Hurry, The Flying Creatures of Fra Angelico, The Woman of Porto Pim, as well as Little Misunderstandings of No Importance, Letter from Casablanca, and The Edge of the Horizon (New Directions).

Rivka Galchen is a writer and journalist whose work often appears in The New Yorker, Harper’s, The London Review of Books and the New York Times. She is the author of three books: Atmospheric Disturbances (2008), American Innovations (2014) and Little Labors (2016). Elizabeth Harris translates contemporary Italian fiction, which includes Tabucchi’s novels Tristano Dies and For Isabel: A Mandala. For her various translations of Tabucchi, she has won a PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant, an NEA Translation Fellowship, The Italian Prose in Translation Award, and the National Translation Award.
