A Reading and Conversation with Cheon Myeong-kwan and Chi-Young Kim at Second Home Hollywood

Join International Book Prize-shortlisted duo Cheon Myeong-kwan, the author of Whale, a sprawling adventure-satire about three interconnected women, and Chi-Young Kim, the novel’s translator from the Korean, for a reading and discussion. The event, jointly hosted by PEN America and the Korean Cultural Center, will take place at Second Home Hollywood in Los Angeles on Thursday, June 8th. The event will begin at 7 pm PST and be followed by a Q&A and book signing. Copies of Whale will be available to purchase at the event courtesy of Skylight Books.

 

Cheon Myeong-kwan is a South Korean novelist, screenwriter, and director. Whale, his debut novel, was published in 2004 and was the winner of the 10th Munhakdongne Award. The novel has since become a contemporary classic in South Korea. His work has been translated into Chinese, English, French, Japanese, Thai, Turkish, Russian, and Vietnamese.

 

 

 

 

Chi-Young Kim is a literary translator and editor based in Los Angeles. A recipient of the Man Asian Literary Prize for her work on Please Look After Mom by Kyung-sook Shin (2011), she has translated over a dozen books, including works by Ae-ran Kim, You-jeong Jeong, and Young-ha Kim, among others.
