SUMMARY:Ida Jessen in Conversation with Rick Moody
DESCRIPTION:Join us at C.G. Boerner Gallery for a conversation and reading with Ida Jessen and Rick Moody\, as they discuss Ida’s new novel A Change of Time.  \nIda Jessen is widely considered to be the master of psychological realism in contemporary Danish fiction. Having made her debut with the short-story collection Under Sten (Under Stone) in 1989\, Jessen’s breakthrough came with the trilogy: Den der lyver (The One Who’s Lying; 2011)\, Det første jeg tænker (The First Thing I Think Of; 2006)\, and Børnene (The Children; 2009). The latter earned her the Booksellers Prize\, the Golden Laurel and a nomination for the Nordic Council Literature Prize. Her short story collection\, Postkort til Annie (Postcard to Annie; 2013) earned her another nomination for the Nordic Council Prize. Jessen was recently awarded the 2017 Critics’ Choice Award (April 2018) for The Anagrams of Doctor Bagge. She is also a recipient of the Lifetime Award from the Danish Arts Foundation. \n  \nRick Moody is the author of six novels (Garden State\, The Ice Storm\, Purple America\, The Diviners\, The Four Fingers of Death\, and Hotels of North America)\, three collections of stories (The Ring of Brightest Angels Around Heaven\, Demonology\, and Right Livelihoods)\, a memoir (The Black Veil)\, and a collection of essays\, On Celestial Music. His novel\, The Ice Storm\, was adapted for film by director Ang Lee\, and won the award for best screenplay at the Cannes International Film Festival. His short fiction and essays have appeared widely\, including in The New Yorker\, The New York Times\, Harper’s\, The Atlantic\, The Paris Review\, etc. He has been widely anthologized\, including in Best American Stories\, Best American Essays\, Best American Spiritual Writing\, and elsewhere. His awards including the Aga Khan Award from The Paris Review\, the Addison Metcalf Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters\, a Guggenheim Fellowship\, Officier de L’Ordre des Arts a des Lettres\, from the Republique Francaise\, the PEN/Martha Albrand Award for excellence in the memoir\, and others.
