Archipelago Books

A nonprofit press devoted to contemporary & classic world literature

When I read translations, I do so for the same reason I read anything. I am looking for insight, for pleasure, for pain, for beauty, for humanity, for an irresistible narrative voice, for everything I demand of every book that I open. I am looking, in essence, for a great read. And let’s move beyond the concept of literature in translation being ‘good for you’ to the much more enticing prospect of literature in translation being an endless series of great reads.

"The translator has to unravel the existing text, and then reweave it in a different form . . . In that process of unraveling and reweaving a force is created that really can dismantle boundaries." @TessLewis94 in an invigorating conversation with Naveen Kishore @seagullbooks https://t.co/FyMTu2BdAH
