SUMMARY:Eliana Hernández-Pachón\, Robin Myers\, and Mónica de la Torre at Poet's House
DESCRIPTION:Join writer Eliana Hernández-Pachón and translator of her poetry\, Robin Myers\, for a reading from The Brush (Archipelago Books\, 2024)\, a polyvocal poem about a painful incident in Colombian history. Following her reading\, Hernández-Pachón and Myers will discuss the process of composing The Brush and translating it from Spanish\, and explore how Hernández-Pachón built the voices of her three speakers (Pablo\, Ester\, and the Brush). This event is a part of our Crosswords series\, featuring poetry in translation. \nHernández-Pachón will read in-person at Poets House\, joined by Robin Myers via Zoom. Attendees can participate either in-person or virtually. If you would like to join us remotely\, please check this event page on September 24 for a Zoom link. \nReadings in Kray Hall with a reception to follow in the Viscusi Reading Room. \nAbout the Poets: \nEliana Hernández-Pachón is a writer and educator born in Bogotá\, Colombia. The Brush received Colombia’s National Poetry Prize in 2020\, making Hernández-Pachón the youngest poet to ever receive this honor. She is part of Como un lugar\, a poetry collective that runs an independent press in Buenos Aires and organizes a literary festival in NYC. She lives in Brooklyn. \nRobin Myers is a poet\, translator\, and 2023 NEA Translation Fellow. Her latest poetry translations include What Comes Back by Javier Peñalosa M. (Copper Canyon Press)\, A Whale Is a Country by Isabel Zapata (Fonograf Editions)\, The Law of Conservation by Mariana Spada (Deep Vellum Publishing)\, and Copy by Dolores Dorantes (Wave Books).
